Christian Domestic Discipline is NOT a good testimony:
During my varied and many internet searches about Christian Domestic Discipline, I have found that it is only the Christians in CDD who think it’s a good idea.
One only needs to read websites like: http://www.feministing.com/archives/007603.html to find that non-Christians are not saying the nicest things about it.
Comments like:
Repression takes some odd forms. I love how religious types like to dress up their dirty sex acts like they are some kind of wholesome godly responsibility.“No honey I promise I am not getting off, God just really wants my to spank you through some crotchless pantaloons.”
And:
I felt my stomach drop when I saw my husband bring out a heavy belt.”How is that NOT abuse? “Consensual spanking” is one thing, but these men are beating their wives with belts!People say atheists are so intolerant of other people’s religions, and sometimes we are, but how do you expect any sane person to be tolerant of religious beliefs used to hurt people and keep them down? This is just disgusting and horrific.
And:
The thing that perpetuates domestic violence the most is the ability of the abuser to make the victim feel like it is their fault. I don’t buy the consensual bit at all nor does my husband of 30 years. To spank someone is to tell them they are no better than a child. How demeaning.
If you want to get past the actual horror that non-Christians have, then, take a look at the websites that make fun of CDD. Sites like: http://timwjackson.blogspot.com/2007/06/christian-domestic-discipline.html
I won’t quote the article as it is at bit long but I will quote a comment.
‘I’d write *rolling my eyes* but I might get spanked when I get home.’
So there you have it.
If Christian’s want to have a good testimony, and attract people to Christianity, then don’t participate in Christian Domestic Discipline.
You don’t have people admiring you, and you don’t have people flocking to listen to you (as Jesus did), you only have people who are horrified, and people who are laughing at you.
If you are brave enough go read what the non-Christian’s are saying about you. If you aren’t brave enough, bury your head in the sand and pretend you are perfect as you often do.
Of all the stupid things Christians have decided to do, this is the stupidest, and the least likely to attract others to their faith (which is my faith as well).
