Christian Domestic Discipline Should be Called Secular Domestic Punishment:

I have already showed you, in many writings that Christian Domestic Discipline is not God’s will and it is in fact not Christian. Therefore I used the term secular, for that is the term Christians use to describe anything they think isn’t Christian.

But now I will show you why Christian Domestic Discipline isn’t discipline either.

There are four ways to influence another persons behaviour.  They ar: Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Punishment and Discipline.

Positive Reinforcement is to add a pleasant stimulus that will encourage the wanted behaviour.  For example, you if you want to buy something from somebody, you offer them money (positive stimulus).  You have used Positive Reinforcement to get what you want.

Negative Reinforcement is to remove a pleasant stimulus to when an unwanted behaviour is exhibited.  For example when you are speeding, you will get a speeding ticket and your money (positive reinforcement) is removed.  The law has used negative reinforcement on you.

Punishment is giving negative (unpleasant) stimulus for an unwanted behaviour.  For example when you are caught steeling, you end up in jail.  You are being punished for what you have done.  Note: Spanking is a punishment.

Discipline comes from a Latin word that means “instruction of knowledge”.  It is the art of instructing people of the way they should go.  La Leche League defines it as “gentle guidance”.  Discipline is not spanking.

And so…

Christian Domestic Discipline should be called Secular Domestic Punishment, or if nothing else Christian Domestic Punishment.
